Discover the Legacy of
a
Continent and Beyond

Across thousands of years and continents, human societies have created systems of power, built networks of exchange, shaped environments, and told stories about who we are.

The Museum brings  together exhibitions on Mesopotamian Civilisations, West African Kingdoms, and the history of the Transatlantic Slave Trade to explore shared human themes across very different worlds.

Visitors are invited to reflect on how civilisations rise, how cultures flourish, how injustice is resisted, and how memory shapes our present.

The TransAtlantic Slave Trade

As many as an estimated 12.5 million persons were trafficked from the African continent to the Americas during the period of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

The exhibition shares the island's history, rooted in colonisation and slavery, which was for centuries shrouded in silence. The exhibition wants to make a contribution to the historical insight and social emotion that are essential in the de-traumatizing and healing process of our society - a multicultural society, burdened with the undivided heritage of an in-process and shared slavery past.

West African Kingdoms
Our Ancestry

Despite many racist narratives of Africa as poor, backward and uncivilized, there were a series of powerful empires that flourished in West Africa, primarily between the 9th and 19th centuries. These kingdoms were known for their wealth, trade networks, military strength, and advanced cultures. Our exhibition of “West African Kingdoms” aim to dispel the myth of the African as a slave and celebrates a chapter of African history defined by innovation, prosperity, and artistic brilliance, inviting audiences to reflect on the lasting impact of these remarkable civilizations while reframing the negative stereotypes of the African and Afro-descended communities.

Land of Abraham

The Mesopotamia exhibition transports visitors to the ancient land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, where the world’s first cities, writing systems, and empires emerged. This exhibition delves into the history of Mesopotamia, modern-day Iraq, often regarded as the birthplace of civilization, covering its rise from the early city-states of Sumer to the mighty empires of Babylon and Assyria. The exhibition reflects on the enduring legacy of Mesopotamia, whose contributions to human history laid the foundations for modern civilization, exploring the ancient origins of writing, law, and empire.
